Lonaconing, Maryland, is located in the Georges Creek Valley of Allegany County.

The town's Main Street has a few vacant buildings, but still shows much life and activity. Several of the buildings are painted a deep, brick red color (which you will see in the still photos and we're certain it will convey on film). There is a mix a both well-kept and deserted residential properties.

A very interesting aspect of this iron and coal mining town is that it is the site of former Lonaconing Silk Mill, which closed suddenly, without warning, in 1957. The day it closed, the doors were locked and everything inside had been left in tact (down to the workers' lunches, umbrellas and calendars.) This building contains all its original equipment and is literally suspended in time.
